Surianto Effendi
Project Manager
Surianto is a Biodiversity Specialist within Daemeter’s Biodiversity, Conservation and Restoration team. His day-to-day work centres on HCV and HCS assessments, biodiversity surveys, and species monitoring across Indonesia’s land-use sectors, drawing on deep botanical roots to build the kind of species-level evidence base that supports conservation decision-making and longitudinal monitoring of biodiversity outcomes.
With over a decade of field experience, he brings particular strength in plant identification, ecology, and wildlife surveys. He is a licensed HCV-HCS Lead Assessor and a registered HCS Approach Practitioner, and has conducted assessments across the palm oil and oil and gas sectors. He has also provided technical support on landscape-level HCV-HCS screening in Sumatera and delivered Nature Positive Farming training for smallholders.
Surianto is drawn to fieldwork that connects botanical science with practical conservation outcomes. Before joining Daemeter, he led an education laboratory at a university in East Kalimantan, carried out biodiversity assessments for the oil and gas sector, and collected ethnomedicinal plant data for a national government ministry.
He holds an MSc in Plant Biology from IPB University and a BSc in Biology from Mulawarman University. He speaks Indonesian and Kutai Malay, with passive English. His professional curiosity carries straight into his personal life: Surianto’s bookshelves are filled with plant taxonomy volumes, and biodiversity remains his great passion.
