Sahat Aritonang, MSc
Director
Sahat is the Director of Technical Operations at Daemeter, where he oversees technical delivery and provides strategic advisory across the firm’s land-use sector programmes. With around 20 years of experience, his work spans HCV and HCS assessments, landscape and jurisdictional governance, supply chain traceability, smallholder capacity building, and the carbon and growth modelling that underpin investment-ready land-use projects.
He has led HCV and HCS assessments, Social Impact Assessments, and land use change analyses across Indonesia, as well as in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand. He brings deep expertise in designing and implementing landscape and jurisdictional programmes, traceability systems, and RSPO certification support, working with major private sector clients, development agencies, and government stakeholders. He sits on the Quality Panel of the HCV Network and the Executive Committee of the HCSA Steering Group, where his quality-assurance role contributes directly to the integrity of standards used across the industry.
Before joining Daemeter, Sahat worked in the industrial forestry sector, where he focused on plantation planning, growth modelling, carbon accounting, and land management strategy, experience that today informs his advisory on carbon-relevant investments and the measurement frameworks needed to track outcomes at scale. He is motivated by the challenge of turning sustainability commitments into practical outcomes, particularly where private sector, government, and community interests intersect at landscape and jurisdictional scale.
Sahat holds an MSc in Forest Management from Gadjah Mada University and a BSc in Forestry from North Sumatera University. He is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English. When he isn’t on assignment, Sahat is on a basketball court, in the gym, or planning his next trip somewhere new.
