Nur Rachman
Project Manager
Rachman is a Biodiversity Specialist within Daemeter’s Biodiversity, Conservation and Restoration team. His day-to-day work centres on HCV and HCS assessments, biodiversity surveys, species monitoring, and essential ecosystem area analysis, building the kind of longitudinal species-level evidence base that supports both immediate conservation decisions and ongoing measurement of biodiversity outcomes.
With over 14 years of field experience, he brings deep expertise in wildlife research, population estimation, and habitat assessment across Kalimantan, Sumatera, and Sulawesi. He has led and contributed to HCV-HCS assessments for the palm oil sector, conducted primate population surveys for orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and gibbons, and carried out biodiversity monitoring for oil and gas and mining operations. He is a licensed HCV Assessor, a registered HCSA Assessor, and an alumnus of the Tropical Biology Association. He has also authored peer-reviewed research on primate distribution and species ecology.
Rachman is motivated by fieldwork that connects scientific evidence with practical conservation outcomes on the ground. Before Daemeter, he worked at a local conservation NGO in East Kalimantan on essential ecosystem monitoring and primate surveys, and spent several years conducting university-affiliated biodiversity research and ethnomedicinal plant studies. He also led FPIC activities for a national REDD+ programme and carried out environmental assessments for government agencies.
He holds an MSc in Animal Biosciences from IPB University and a BSc in Biology from Mulawarman University. He speaks Indonesian and intermediate English. Swimming is Rachman’s preferred way to unwind once the field gear is packed away.
