Maria Ratna
Senior Project Manager
Ratna is an Environmental Economist at Daemeter, bringing over 25 years of experience in environmental economics, natural resource valuation, and policy advisory across Indonesia’s land-use and natural resource sectors. Her work centres on applying economic approaches to sustainability challenges, making her one of the firm’s deepest resources on sustainable finance, green growth, and the kind of valuation that turns environmental outcomes into investable propositions.
She is qualified in economic valuation and modelling, extended cost-benefit analysis, System Dynamic modelling, and macro-economic analysis for regional development planning. Her work spans strategic environmental assessment, Payment for Environmental Services, and Green GDP accounting. She has contributed to government regulation drafting, REDD+ safeguards development, and low-carbon development planning, and has delivered training on economic valuation and sustainable development to government officers at national and regional levels. Her extensive network across government ministries, provincial agencies, and civil society enables her to bridge technical analysis with policy influence at jurisdictional and national scale.
Ratna is motivated by the conviction that environmental economics offers practical tools for solving development and sustainability challenges. Before Daemeter, she worked as an environmental economist for an international green growth institute, served as a resource person and expert advisor to multiple government ministries, contributed to economic analysis for international development agencies, and lectured in environmental economics at a national university.
She holds a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Indonesia, an MA in Economics from Thammasat University in Thailand, and a Bachelor’s in Economics from STIE Kerjasama, Yogyakarta. She is fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
