Statement on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking

1.      Our Commitment to Tackling Modern Slavery

Daemeter is committed to elimination of modern slavery. We have zero tolerance to any form of modern slavery and human trafficking and are active in steps to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking does not take place in our business or supply chain.

Daemeter subscribes to the UN Global Compact which in itself commits us to respecting “the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights” and that we are not involved, directly or indirectly, in any human rights abuses. Furthermore we take our understanding of human rights from the UN’s Universal Declaration and Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, noting Articles 3, 4 and 5:

Article 3: Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

Article 4: No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.

Article 5: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment of punishment.

2.      Our Organizational Structure, Business and Supply Chain

Daemeter is an international consulting company focused on supporting stakeholders to improve their sustainability, environmental and social responsibility. As such we actively promote human rights, social equity and improved livelihoods directly through the consulting services we provide.

Headquartered in Indonesia, our activities are global in scope but concentrated in the Asia Pacific region. Our supply chain consists of partner organisations and self-employed consultants located around the world. Our clients range from private sector, government, development agencies, NGO/CSOs to research institutions.

We expect all suppliers and business partners to conduct their business in an ethical and lawful way, which includes adoption of practices that eliminate human slavery in their operations and across their own supply chains.

3.      Our Policies and Initiatives

Daemeter’s Code of Conduct describes our expectations, on employees and supply partners, in relation to standards of integrity and ethical behaviour. All employees must acknowledge and agree to this Code, which includes emphasis on the importance of elimination of modern slavery, indentured and forced labour, and other coercive employment practices.

Subcontractors are also expected to comply to the same Code of Conduct as a necessary pre-requisite for contracting and continue engagement.

Daemeter conducts due-diligence on commercial partners (both clients and supply partners) to assess risk with respect to human rights abuses, including in relation to modern slavery and forced labour.

All contracts signed by Daemeter and third parties include clause that requires compliance to our standards of integrity and ethics as described in our Code of Conduct.

Daemeter conducts onboarding procedures with new staff that explains the Code of Conduct and related policies, including those relevant to modern slavery and human trafficking. In addition, these policies are made available on the Daemeter intranet, supported by periodic familiarisation sessions.

Daemeter’s staff include experts on social equity, human rights and labour practices, and this expertise is utilised to ensure other staff understand and are aware of the issues.

This statement is periodically reviewed and updated in line with evolving standards.
