Aji Sartono

Project Manager

Aji is a GIS and remote sensing specialist at Daemeter, leading knowledge management within the Geospatial and Informatics team. His work turns satellite imagery and spatial datasets into decision-support evidence, building the maps, databases, and repeatable analytical workflows that underpin the firm’s technical delivery and help clients navigate landscape-scale change.

With close to two decades at Daemeter, he brings deep experience in land cover mapping, land cover change analysis, and remote sensing interpretation for HCV and HCS assessments and RSPO projects across oil palm and smallholder landscapes. His spatial inputs underpin environmental and social risk screening, landscape monitoring, and sustainability assessments, supporting both impact measurement and adaptive management over time. He produces and quality-controls maps for reports and proposals, designs spatial databases that others can build on, and regularly trains colleagues to get more out of geospatial tools.

Aji is drawn to systems thinking and detail-oriented problem solving, particularly where a well-designed workflow can be reused across many projects. Before joining Daemeter, he worked in consulting and government research settings on land and coastal resource management projects across Indonesia.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from the University of Winayamukti and a Diploma in Forestry from IPB University and has received training in the IFC Performance Standards. Aji is a native Bahasa Indonesia speaker with working proficiency in English. Away from the screen, Aji is a curious explorer at heart, equally happy with the radio on, a puzzle in front of him, a crop to tend, or a new place to discover.
