High Conservation Value (HCV) Assessment

The High Conservation Value (HCV) concept was developed by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in 1999 as principle 9 of the FSC standard for certified sustainable forestry. Today, HCV is widely used outside FSC, and is considered one of the most effective spatial planning tools for balancing development objectives with social and environmental concerns. Daemeter is a leader in credible use of the HCV tool in Indonesia, promoting transparency, best practice and practical management solutions for HCV assessments. We contribute actively to international discourse on HCV issues through invited participation in technical workshops, international conferences, and publication of scientific articles and public domain reports and data sets and two Daemeter Directors are members of the Technical Panel of the HCV Resource Network. Daemeter is a Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) approved HCV assessor.

• HCV Full Assessment

Daemeter has proven world class expertise to map, manage and monitor HCVs at local to regional scales. Daemeter has lead more than twenty HCV assessment in Indonesia in natural forest logging, pulp plantation forestry and oil palm.

• HCV Pre-Assessment Scoping

Pre-assessment is performed prior to full HCV assessment. The goal is to map HCVs potentially present and describe likely impacts of planned operations on these values. Pre-assessment reduces cost and increases quality of full assessment by allowing for improved planning and team preparation. It also enables companies to make informed decisions about whether or not to move forward with full assessment in a given area before significant investment are made.

• HCV Management and Monitoring

Effective management and monitoring of HCV is considered the most challenging part of the HCV process. Daemeter provides practical tools for managing and monitoring HCVs and can help integrate these activities into operational planning.

• HCV Risk Assessment for Due Diligence
