Daemeter Consulting is strongly opposed to any form of violence or intimidation in the oil palm plantation industry anywhere in the world.
In regards to a recent report called Human rights abuses and land conflicts in the PT Asiatic Persada concession in Jambi published 21 November 2011, Daemeter applauds the efforts of the investigative team to attempt to reconstruct and report on the recent conflicts that occurred within the Asiatic Persada concession. However, we reject the implied allegations by the authors that Daemeter Consulting did not act independently in its role as an observer for the negotiations between Suku Anak Dalam groups and Wilmar, or in its role facilitating the participatory mapping of areas claimed by these communities in December 2009. This assertion is not supported factually in the report.
DaemeterConsulting values transparency and encourages all our clients to make assessment reports publicly accessible, including those referenced in the report.
Daemeter is a leading independent consulting firm promoting sustainable and equitable management of natural resources in Indonesia. Our mission is to provide the information and knowledge required by progressive, responsible members of society to implement sustainable natural resource management practices, and to increase local capacity of the private sector and civil society to manage natural resources sustainably.
